Under heavy police protection, a 60-ton shipment of nuclear waste that provoked environmentalist protests on its way across Germany arrives Thursday, March 29, 2001 at its final destination in Gorleben, northern Germany. The waste from German nuclear power plants was sent back from the French reprocessing plant of La Hague. The protesters object to what they say is highly dangerous radioactive waste being transported through Germany.
